Conspicuous consumers

Setting up this new house has been a spending spree. Two new recliners, new patio furniture, new bed, new computer desk, new washer and dryer, new dishwasher, new laptop, and the most recent purchase, a new red leather sofa and chair. Our belongings from Tennessee will soon arrive, thank goodness. Maybe we'll be able to slow down the buying a little bit and just start enjoying the things we've already bought.

Oh, wait. We'll need new end tables, new night stands, new lamps, new paint.... Thank goodness for the new job!

Snow in Vegas! Just enough to cover the grass. I had to capture it in a digital image, even if it was just the crummy camera in my cell phone. My coworkers and I spent much of the day running back and forth to the windows. Las Vegas proper is in a valley, so lots more snow accumulated in the surrounding mountains. Posted by Hello

Got a job!

I've been working as a contractor for a good while, but today I landed a great job with one of the best companies in town! Thank heaven for the stability and security, and the benefits are wonderful. Leave! What a concept!

So far, so good

2005 is going pretty well so far. We didn't celebrate in the spa; we drove to an empty lot just southwest of the strip and lined up with dozens of other cars to watch the fireworks. It was a good way to see in the new year as a local.

The most notable outing on Saturday was a trip to see the movie Sideways at the Orleans movie theatre. Excellent flick. We got our tickets at Fandango for the first time. I've been aware of the ticket service for a while, but I've never gotten around to using it. It was really nice to be able to skip the line at the ticket counter.

Our major activity today was furniture shopping. We looked at leather couches, entertainment centers, coffee tables, and night stands, and we bought nothing. Now, that's my kind of shopping trip.
